Politics: Obama's New Stance on Immigration

Turning the Eye toward the President of the United States

New opportunities for citizenship for once illegal immigrants

Immigration Services Washington D.C.
Obama's administration has made changes in the immigration policy today, these changes will drastically reduce the number of young immigrants being deported from this country. However, this is by no means an "open door" stance on immigration or a welcome mat for all illegal immigrants, this policy will basically allow government officials to grant citizenship to immigrants that are or will be productive members of society.

This policy only applies to persons meeting these criteria:
  • 0-30 years of age
  • Clean Criminal Record
  • Successful ship or military service
These select individuals will be granted a 2 year deferral from deportation and allowed to apply for work permits.

"It makes no sense to expel talented young people..." said Obama. I agree completely with this statement. It allows enforcement officers to crack down on illegal immigrants without removing people that would most likely improve society. This move may of been in response to criticisms made by Hispanic-American leaders in regards to the increase in deportation rate. Honestly though, reason really doesn't matter, this is the right thing to do. This becomes very clear when you examine a study conducted by the US Small Business Administration that showed:
  • Immigrant Workers make up  12.2% of the total work force
  • Immigrant Workers constitute 12.5% of all small business owners
  • Immigrant Workers are 30% more likely to start a small business than non-immigrants
This study clearly illustrates the benefits of immigrants to the United States. It also shows that many of these young immigrants that now have a chance to will start small businesses which will increase job opportunities; This seems very good especially when viewed next to the alternative of wasting tax payer dollars on the deportation process.
It is an election year so of course you will see Republican outrage for the sake of outrage at this policy. Republicans have been consistantly voting against legislative reforms (i.e.DREAM Act) that would allow similar opportunities when they were brought in front of congress. To be transparent I am not affiliated with a political party, I gather research and decide my own opinions.
Which brings me to this, do you agree with me that this policy is right for the country? If not leave a comment down below and tell me why, if your logic is convincing, I will right an addendum showing your side of this issue.

World News: Military Leaders Claim Full legislative authority in Egypt

Egypt's  Revolution has encountered a major setback

Violence from Egyptian Revolt
Egypt's Supreme Constitutional Court ruled the country's parliament invalid today. This marks what could be the end of Egypt's brave attempt at democracy. The fate of the countries future rests in the hands of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces. The Supreme Council, under the leadership of Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, will be calling a 100 person assembly that will write the country's new constituion.

Today we will be turning the Eye of the internet towards Egypt, but first I need to bring any readers who have not been following this story up to speed; On January 25th 2011 Egyptian citizens took to the streets to protest against the rule of President Hosni Mubarak. The protest turned violent the day after. As the movement grew the protests grew more violent and by January 31th there were well over 250,000 protesters in Tahnir Square demonstrating against Mubarak. The Egyptian military soon adopted a neutral stance in the conflict, siding neither with the government or the protesters. After continued protest and violence Mubarak surrendered his power to the Supreme Council of Egyptian Armed Forces on Friday February 11th 2011, this day became know as "Friday of Departure".
In the following months the original constitution and parliament were dissolved, elections were held, and a new parliament was formed to draft a new constitution. The region was still very unstable, many protesters were not happy with the new ways either.  However, Egypt's Constitutional Court ruled the new parliament invalid today.
But why was the parliament dissolved? Well the court found that the parliamentary election methods were invalid. This means that the ballots cast were not properly counted and or the methods of election were generally "unfair". This left Egypt without a parliament, which is why the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) took over and promised a new constitution quickly. This has outraged members of the Muslim Brotherhood (Egypts largest Islamist party) they are calling it a "military coup". They believe SCAF is operating against the very democracy they promised to help create. It seems that the chances for a democratic government for Egypt are slipping away. After more than a year of death and destruction, the Egyptians may be right back where they started. The military has lifted the bans that stopped members of Mubarak's regime from running for election. Egypt could very possibly see the old regime return. When asked about it protesters stated. "We'd be outraged, if we weren't so exhausted." That seems to be a strong sentiment coming from the revolutionaries, and if this is true how much longer can they hold on?
So what do you think? Has all the violence been for naught? Or will the military establish fair election procedures and bring the return of the democracy? Let us know in a comment down below.

Tech News: Google's Gawking is getting noticed

Turning the Eye toward Google Streetview

How much does Google Know?
As you can see from the picture to the left, from Google street view, they see a lot and know a lot more. It is to be expected considering they are the most popular search engine in the world. However, when asked the simple question of why their street view mapping cars were collecting unencrypted data off of wireless networks as they pasted by the techs from Google were "clueless".
Picture from google streetview

The investigation into this then became of "it wasn't my job to check the logs" and "I never really read the design documents". All the buckpassing has raised even more red flags. It appears Google was trying to sweep it under the rug when one of their spokeswomen stated  “Clearly there was a process breakdown.” in referance to the number of engineers working on the project that claimed not to know all the details. Google then pulled out their digital ace in the whole and blamed it on a lone engineer's software malfunction. The F.C.C , the leaders of the investigation, would not have any of that. Detailing in a report on the case that it was not the work of a lone malfunction, and that they would be continuing the investigation. The F.C.C.s progress in their investigation has encouraged European countries such as Britain and Germany to reopen similar cases.
However Google is now beginning to play nice, cooperating fully with the investigation. Going as far to destroy the information collected in Britain. Google's most resent statement on the matter was that the collection methods did meet its standards but, they haven't broken any laws. The information was never sold, or give to any third party or used to benefit anyone.
So what do you think? Has Google made an honest mistake, or were they storing information for some dark terrible purpose, or just trying to make money? Leave a comment down below and let us know.

Challenge Day 2 of 30

Challenge Day 2 of 30
Today I went door to door handing out swag buck referral strips to people. It was certainly interesting, my personal favorite being people that claim they don't use a search engine when online. In an attempt to see if this is a profitable method I visited 25 houses in 45 minutes time. Out of those people 7 appeared to be interested and 3 out of the 7 were very interested. If only 1 of those three stays with it for the long haul it will make me $8 which works out to be ten dollars an hour not bad for ringing doorbells. If you want to start making money from Swagbucks click the link the ad at the bottom to sign up.
If you are trying to sell anything door to door here are a few tips:

  • Smile all the time, it makes people more likely to be receptive to anything you are sell
    • example
  • Knowledge Know your product, inside and out, you should be able to answer any question instantly
    • example Q: How good are the search results?
    •               A: Swagbucks is powered by Google and Ask and provides similar search results
  • Positives Understand the best thing about your product and center your pitch around that.
    • example   Swagbucks is free, and provides you an opportunity to make money doing something you already do.
  • Numbers Tracking your progress allows you to remember where you've been and to track the amount of money you have made. If your numbers show you are only getting paid $1.25 an hour that means you need to change your methods or your product
  • Persistence if 25% percent of your customers simply listen to what you have to say you're on the right track. Remember you are trying to sell something they didn't even know they wanted and you will get dozens of NOs before you get a YES!

Challenge Day 1 referrals

Challenge day 1 of 30
I've begun posting comments on blogs and YouTube videos, and other websites trying to get my referral code out there. I have determined this method is too passive, I have yet to receive any new referrals.
                 Say hello to plan b:
Three of these on one page times 20 pages will give me 60 referral slips to hand out when I go door to door tomorrow in an attempt to gain referrals to meet my goal of 500 dollars worth of swag bucks by 07/09/2012 (btw to make your own QR codes for free visit http://www.qrstuff.com/)
If you would like to help me reach my goal you can refer friends to this blog or give them my referal link:  http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/mleonc or sign up yourself and begin getting paid to search the web as you normally do.
In addition to the challenge I have created this blog to chronicle I want to help people make money or just help other people. That's why I want to talk about selling Plasma as a way to make money. I'd like to think this is a good idea but in the details its not as good as it sounds, I invite you to do your own research and comment if you can find a safe, plasma donating center that will use your plasma to save lives, not make beauty products. The main problem with companies that pay a person to donate plasma is that they are more likely to lie about their current state of health to make money. I'm no expert in this field but I encourage anyone who is thinking about this as a money making venture to proceed with caution.

Challenge day 1

This is day 1 of 30 in my quest to make 500 dollars from swagbucks.com. I have started this blog in the hope that i can inform my readers about free ways to make money on the internet and to refer people to swagbucks to help reach my total requirement of 62,745 swag bucks, or 500 dollars. If you'd like to sign up for swagbucks.com follow this link http://www.swagbucks.com/refer/mleonc or you can click the link in the top right hand corner of the blog to sign up, you get a small bonus for being referred and so do I. For a description of swagbucks view the previous post.
If swagbucks isn't quite your cup of tea fear not there are lots of other ways to make money on the internet. One of my personal favorites is becoming a Mechanical TURK for Amazon. I do this for a little bit of extra cash. The basic premise of a a Mechanical TURK or mturk for short is that you complete simple tasks that computers just can't do effectively. These Human Intelligence Tasks or HITs come in all shapes and sizes; some HITs are very quick and easy but pay very little while others are more difficult or timely and pay more. Oh yes did I forget to mention that Amazon pays you cash? Well its true, cash can be deposited directly into a checking account. No swag buck no points just cash.
The tasks are very diverse, you could classify school systems or right 90 word descriptions of pornos. The choice is yours. Mturks make on average 2-6 dollars an hour depending on how well you complete the HITs. The system also records your accuracy, so the more accurate you are the more high paying HITs  you are offered. To sign up to be a Mechanical TURK for amazon.com follow this link: https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome

I will end every post with my current progress toward my swagbucks goal:
